Church: relevant?
.
Is belonging to a church still important?
Can’t I have God without religion?

Our Response

There is no question that organized religion has caused the suffering and death of many innocent people, so we understand why some people do not trust it.

Despite the fact that some “Christians” haven’t acted much like Christ, we believe that there is still a core of believers who are genuinely connected to him.  Christ said that it is the love of his followers toward other people that demonstrates their devotion to him.  How better to realize this fact than to be living in unity with people of all races, classes, and personalities?

We believe that while nonreligious people may have a genuine encounter with God, there is still wisdom in encountering God as He is incarnate presently: in the group of believers called the church, flawed though we may be.  The Bible goes so far as to call the church “the body of Christ.” This is what we hope to be as a congregation: it’s not about us, but entirely about Christ, as real as His body, serving one another and the world.
